Monday Prison Visiting - Manawatu
Be a listening ear and a link to support.
We’re looking for friendly, reliable volunteers to join our team visiting Manawatū Prison on Monday afternoons, helping to provide access to advice, information, and a supportive presence for men inside.
These weekly visits offer an important opportunity for people in prison to connect with someone outside the wire—someone who will listen without judgment, answer questions where possible, and help link them to services and support, both inside and for their eventual release.
What’s involved:
Attending Manawatū Prison on Monday afternoons (usually 1–2 hours).
Meeting one-on-one with individuals who request support or conversation.
Listening, offering guidance, or directing people to appropriate services.
Being a respectful, non-judgemental presence for people navigating complex circumstances.
We’re looking for people who:
Are approachable, empathetic, and great listeners.
Can engage with people from all walks of life in a respectful way.
Are calm, dependable, and confident in a prison environment.
Can commit to regular Monday afternoon visits.
You don’t need to have all the answers—just the willingness to be present, to listen, and to treat people with dignity. Training and ongoing support are provided, and volunteers are part of a valued team making a real difference.
Sometimes the first step toward change is knowing someone cares.
