Our Services

Preparing for release

The key to successful reintegration is establishing a relationship prior to release. Our fieldworkers will visit the prison to meet with you and talk about your release plans. Our Field Workers work alongside you as you prepare for release, and help to navigate the community agencies relevant to your journey. PARS primarily works with long servers (two years plus) and also provides assistance to people on bail.

Ongoing assistance

We provide support for as long as needed and don’t need a formal referral to work with someone. Self-referrals are common but we also accept referrals from Prison, Community Corrections and other social service agencies. A referral can be made to management@manawatupars.org.nz

PARS can help navigate government and non government organisations, linking/equipping you with community connections to help you achieve your reintegration goals.

Accommodation

In Palmerston North we have accommodation options and accept applications for accommodation from people in prison, on their release and also from people in the community who need somewhere to live.

Travel fund

PARS has limited funding available for immediate family members who live in the Manawatu region to visit someone in a prison outside Manawatu. In Napier, there is a fund can be accessed for Napier residents to visit someone in Hawke’s Bay Regional Prison. We do not provide funds for accommodation, nor do we provide accommodation for whanau travelling outside of their own region to another location to visit someone in prison. Call 0800 727 700 to find out more.

Men’s Group

The men's group is a weekly gathering for men who have experienced the justice system, offering a safe and supportive space to reflect, grow, and rebuild. Through open conversations, shared experiences, and mutual encouragement, the group fosters a sense of belonging and purpose. With respect at its core, the group helps men navigate the challenges of reintegration and empowers them to create meaningful change in their lives and communities. Call 0800 727 700 to find out more.

Women’s Group

The women’s group is a collaborative initiative with the Hastings Women’s Centre, created for women who have experienced the justice system. Meeting weekly in a safe, welcoming environment, the group offers a space for connection, reflection, and support. Through shared stories and guided discussions, participants are encouraged to explore their strengths, build resilience, and support each other on their journey of healing and growth. The focus is on empowerment, community, and restoring a sense of identity and hope for the future. Call 0800 727 700 to find out more.
